Update : 30 Dec 2022, 11:12 AM

A bus of Dhaka University plying the wrong side of the road before the Prime Minister's Office at Bijoy Sarani hit a pedestrian on Thursday afternoon, which resulted in his death a few hours later.

Md Al Amin Tutul, 24, was struck by a “Khonika” bus, which transports DU students to and from Gazipur, and died while on life support in a private hospital in Malibagh.

The Bangla daily Samakal, quoting Tejgaon police station SI Habibur Rahman, reported on Friday that the driver of the bus, Bajlur Rahman, had been detained.

Tutul had suffered injuries to his leg and head, the police officer said, adding that his family was preparing to file a case in connection with the fatal accident.

DU student Sakib Hasan, general secretary of the Khonika bus executive committee, told Samakal the driver had taken the wrong side of the road due to severe traffic congestion.

Students, who were on the bus at the time, said they had advised the driver against it, but he had not paid heed to them.
