Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday said an anti-mosquito drive will be conducted in the DSCC area from June 15 to control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
The drive will be conducted in ten areas under DSCC, he said while speaking at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.
“We have made a plea to the authorities concerned seeking ten executive magistrates to conduct the drives and we hope we’ll get them soon. Apart from it, the combing operation will continue,” UNB reported him as saying.
This year, we will keep open the mosquito monitoring control room for two months instead of one month and through it we will monitor the combing operations, he added.
Taposh also urged the building owners to keep their terrace, rooftop, clay pot clean to avoid stagnant water regularly.
On May 10, DSCC carried out larvicide operations at Dhaka University’s Central Library area.
This year, the Dhaka South authorities began mosquito drives earlier than usual in a bid to curb mosquito-borne virus dengue.
They have undertaken a year-long initiative to reduce the Aedes mosquito and the Culex mosquito.
Before the mosquito season began, the DGHS carried out three surveys -- pre-monsoon, monsoon and after-monsoon. Based on it they found seven DSCC wards to be at risk.
