The driver of a battery-run autorickshaw was killed after his vehicle had been hit by a CNG-run autorickshaw at Dhaka’s Elephant Road on Sunday.

The deceased is Samirul Kari, 26, a resident of the capital’s Kamrangirchar area.

The incident was reported at around 3:15am near Dhaka Medical College Staff Quarters, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Raihan Uddin of New Market police station.

The CNG-powered autorickshaw, delivering newspapers, rammed into Samirul's rickshaw, causing him to fall from his vehicle.

He suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead, said SI Raihan.

The CNG-fuelled autorickshaw has been seized and its driver Parvez, 30, has been detained, he added.
