Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dhaka West and JCI Dhaka Young have jointly organised a program to distribute raincoats among rickshaw pullers to make their lives easier during monsoon.
The aim of the 16th August program titled “Rain Shelter” was to alleviate some of a rickshaw-pullers’ suffering, and also had a symbolic nature of giving to the ones who are in need, said a press release.
During the program, rain coats were distributed to more than a hundred rickshaw-pullers in Gulshan 2, and hundreds of masks were also given out by the pizza shop, Pizzawala.

Dhaka West, Taha Yeasin Ramadan and President of JCI Dhaka United and Md Ashikur Rahman, among other board members and members of JCI Dhaka, were present there.

The program was coordinated by Titas Saha, a member of the organisation and Local General Legal Counsel of JCI Dhaka Young, Rabeya Nasir Ovi.
The members of JCI said that the effort would at least make some rickshaw-pullers’ journeys a little easier, according to the press release.
They also expressed their determination to continue such public welfare programs in the future.
JCI is a United States-based non-profit international organization of enterprising people between the ages of 18 and 40. It is a global network of young active citizens on a mission to create positive change in the world. There are currently 16 local chapters of JCI active in Bangladesh.
With thousands of people facing hardship in recent Covid-19 lockdowns, rickshaw-pullers are the ones whose incomes have been directly affected. They have had to struggle, come rain or shine, in recent months.
