Around Tk3.77 crore have gone missing from the vault of the Dhaka Bank's Bangshal branch.

Police later detained two bank officials in connection to this incident on Thursday.

The detainees are Cash-in-Charge Rifazul Haque and Operations Manager Emran Ahmed.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Masum Billah of Bangshal police station told Dhaka Tribune that since no case has been filed yet, they were detained under Section 54 and produced before a court.

The court later sent them to jail, reports BSS.

Now, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will take over the complaint and go for further investigation, he added.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Md Mizanur Rahman, an audit team of the bank found a total of Tk37,766,000 missing from the vault and submitted a statement to the branch manager in this regard.

Later on, Abu Bakar Siddique, the branch manager, interrogated the bank officials who were responsible for taking care of the vault.

At one stage of quizzing, both the detained officials confessed of stealing the money from the vault, said Mizanur Rahman.

"We handed them over to the police immediately. If they are proven guilty after the investigation, our bank will file a case against them," he added.
