The High Court (HC) has ordered owners of illegal structures in Gulshan, Banani and Dhanmondi areas to remove their installations within 10 months.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order, disposing of 233 separate writs filed in this regard, reports BSS.
“The court has ordered Rajuk to demolish the structures if the owners do not comply with the order. It also ordered to remove all the commercial establishments from the areas," Barrister ABM Altafur Rahman, who moved several of those writs before the court, told newsmen.
Rajuk issued notice to the owners of the illegal structures in the areas in 2015 and even carried out eviction drives in July, 2016, after the Holey Artisan attack.
But the owners then moved to the court and filed writ petitions one after another against the Rajuk.
