Bangladesh Army will organize ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon’ on January 10 in 2021 as part of Mujib Barsha celebrations and commemoration of the homecoming day of the father of the nation.
The event will be organized in collaboration with the National Implementation Committee for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary under the overall coordination of the armed forces.
The organizing committee of the event made the announcement at a “meet the press” at the Dhaka Cantonment Multipurpose Complex on Monday, said a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The event will be organized under the overall direction and encouragement of Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed.
Sports Vision Limited and Trust Innovation Limited will be also involved in holding the marathon.
The organizing committee said although many marathons have been held in Bangladesh earlier, this is going to be an international standard marathon for the first time. Renowned local and foreign runners (above 18 years) will participate in this marathon.
“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021will be held in both men’s and women’s categories. The marathon will start from Army Stadium on 10 January 2021 at 6:30am and end in Hatirjheel area, the press release added.
The marathon will be conducted in three categories, including full marathon (42.195km) where 100 local and foreign runners (competitors with experience in participating and finishing marathons) will participate; half marathon (21.097km) that will be participated by 100 Bangladeshi runners who have previous marathon experience.
Keeping in mind the slogan “Digital Marathon in Digital Bangladesh in Mujib Barsha,” people from all over the world can participate in the digital marathon by registering on the website www.dhakamarathon.com.bd.
Runners will complete the race at their own time between January 10 and March 8 in 2021 at a convenient location. The digital marathon will include 5km, 10km, half and full marathons.
The full marathon will be broadcast live on television. The arrangement will be conducted following proper hygiene rules amid Covid-19, the press release further added.
Registration will be open to the public soon. Detailed information in this regard can be found on the official website of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021” and the social media page.
The organizing committee hoped that such marathons will be organized by Sports Vision Limited and Trust Innovation Limited on a large scale on January 10 every year from 2022 under the management of the Bangladesh Army and with the overall cooperation of Army Sports Control Board.
The Monday’s press meet was attended by Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin, chairman of Army Sports Control Board, Captain Saifur Rahman, chairman of Sports Vision Limited Chairman, Brigadier General Salim Ahmed Khan, chief coordinator of the organizing committee and managing director of Trust Innovation Limited and other officials.
