DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said adequate security measures have been taken by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at all the puja mandaps in the capital.
Devotees are peacefully visiting the puja mandaps. There is no danger of any chaos or irregularity anywhere.
The DMP commissioner said this after inspecting the Dhakeshwari temple in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
To celebrate Durga Puja, Hindus all across the country are gathering at the mandaps. With national festivals of such magnitude arises risks of terrorist attacks or unrest from conflicts.
However, the DMP commissioner assured that there is no such possibility. He said there has been no conflict or chaos in any mandap in the capital so far.
“We think that there is no danger of any untoward incident. Devotees are joyfully visiting the puja mandaps,” he said.
He added: “Due to some limitations of the DMP, it was not possible to provide a standing force for the movement of the devotees in the puja mandaps this time; but all those we have spoken to at the mandap have expressed satisfaction over the security measures of the police.”
He also said that due to the Covid-19 situation, patrol police are being deployed wherever there is a large crowd in the capital.
He added: “We expect everyone to follow the health safety rules. Please celebrate the ceremony while maintaining a safe distance.”
Responding to a question from reporters, the DMP commissioner said that the main population has nothing to do with those who are spreading propaganda on social media.
“Everyone knows that some people will spread various propagandas. If we believe all of their propagandas, we will not be able to walk the streets of Dhaka,” he said.
