Lawyer: Another quota reform movement leader taken away by plainclothesmen

Tarek was picked-up around 4:30pm on Wednesday

Md Tarek Rahman, joint convener of the Jubo Odhikar Parishad and a leader of the quota reform movement, was reportedly taken away by some law enforcement officials in plainclothes.

He was apprehended from Old Dhaka’s Ray Shaheb Bazar area near the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 4:30pm on Wednesday, alleged Advocate Ekhlas Uddin Vhuyian, Tarek’s counsel, and Nizam, an activist of the organization. 

Jubo Odhikar Parishad is part of the Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad.

Advocate Ekhlas Uddin Vhuyian on Facebook live said Tarek visited his chamber to discuss the dependent quota in primary schools. Tarek then went down to prepare a draft when five-six men in plain clothes surrounded him.

Ekhlas said he tried to stop the men but they quickly took Tarek away in a microbus.

Some of Tarek’s juniors took photos of the microbus; the registration number of the microbus is Dhaka Metro-1121437.

Asked about the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Walid Hossain said he did not know anything regarding the issue.
