The investigation officer had sought 10 days’ remand for the case filed under the Explosives Substance Act, and seven days’ remand in the case under the Arms Act for interrogation.

Opposing the remand petition, defence counsels filed bail petitions for the accused, but the court rejected the petitions and granted seven days’ remand each for the two cases.

The court also set September 9 as the date for submitting a probe report after accepting the first investigation report (FIR) in the two cases.

Earlier on Thursday, two cases were filed in connection with the blast, Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten at the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said during a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre.

He reiterated that no militant links had been found with the incident.

“During primary interrogation and investigation, we found that they were involved with criminal activities on local domination and related issues. The arrested are being questioned,” he added.

On Wednesday morning, a bomb recovered during a raid accidentally went off when policemen tried to defuse it at the Pallabi police station. Police arrested Rafiqul, Shahidul, and Mosharraf from the Kalshi area during the operation.

Replying to queries at the briefing, AC Baten said: “We are looking into why, who, and how the detainees were planning to commit their crimes. The arrestees are being interrogated. Details will be known later at the end of the investigation.”

Asked on claims that Shahidul had been picked up two days before the incident, he said: “We have not received any information about this. If there is such a statement, we will investigate the issue.

“We caught them red-handed. We have recovered some materials from them. If there is any issue outside of this, we will be able to say it only after the investigation.”

Replying to a question, Baten also said, for the sake of investigation, everything can not be answered instantly, and not much can be said now.

About Islamic State (IS) claims on the attack, he said: “IS can make a claim. But, not all claims are correct. Our job is to investigate a crime. Our investigation has nothing to do with who claimed what.”
