The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has decided to withdraw all restrictions from Wari following the end of the 21-day lockdown period on Friday.
There will be no lockdown from 12am Saturday as neither the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) nor the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has issued any instruction to extend it, DSCC Public Relations Officer Abu Naser said.
He also said the infection rate in the area had reduced compared to the first two weeks.
However, local councillors will continue to use loudspeakers to raise awareness of health guidelines and social distancing in the area till July 30. Covid-19 testing operations and the supply of food and other essential services through e-commerce will continue in the area till July 30 as well.
Furthermore, announcements were made from local mosques and other places of worship throughout Friday, urging to wear masks and maintain other health guidelines, said Naser.
“If the DGHS wants, necessary initiatives will be taken based on guidelines from the Health Ministry and Local Government Department,” added the DSCC PRO.
The DSCC imposed a three-week-long lockdown in Wari from July 4, as a part of the government’s efforts to contain Covid-19.
Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (Joykali Temple to Balda Garden), Larmini Road, Hare Road, Wari Road, Rankin Street, and Nawab Road, under DSCC Ward 41 were put on lockdown as per the plan.
A total of 309 people were tested for Covid-19 in the area between July 4 and 22, and 80 of them were tested positive for the virus, data compiled by the DSCC shows.
