A total of 259 Bangladeshi nationals have left Dhaka for Italy by a special flight of the national flag carrier.

The special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Bangladeshi citizens left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Rome, Italy around 12:05pm on Wednesday.

Tahera Khondoker, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

She said all Bangladeshis residing in Italy have now been sent back there and they will soon join their respective jobs.

Some of them came back to Bangladesh at the onset of the pandemic and some were sent back home in March when Italy recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe.

An airport health officer said: "All Bangladeshi nationals were carrying Covid-19 negative certificates and followed all government health directives."
