Update : 10 Apr 2020, 04:50 PM

Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners Association has decided to extend the closure of all shopping complexes and malls in the city till April 25 to curb the spread of coronavirus.

A statement signed by the association’s General Secretary Arifur Rahman Tipu confirmed the decision on Friday.

However, kitchen markets, pharmacies, and grocery shops will remain out of purview of the decision.

The association's President Towfiq Ehsan urged all shop and mall owners in the city to keep their businesses shut till April 25.

He also requested the wealthy businessmen to stand by the poor people in their respective areas during this time of crisis and stay home.

The decision of closure came amid the government decision to extend the general holiday till April 25 on Friday.

Earlier, on March 22, the country’s shopping complexes and malls were closed down from March 25 to March 31 at first and later extended to April 14 in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
