Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence have taken special initiative to protect the city dwellers from the coronavirus infection.
DMP Commissioner MD Shafiqul Islam gave directives through a statement to spray germicide using water canons in all areas of Dhaka Metropolitan twice daily, starting from Wednesday.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that eight water cannons of DMP will spread the germicide in the eight crime divisions, firstly from 10am to 12pm and later, from 4pm to 6pm. This will continue till the next orders.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director in Dhaka Debashis Bardhan also said that the fire service director general (DG) has already initiated spraying of germicide using their water vehicles.
”We have now started decontamination of various important establishments, such as Bangabhaban, Gonobhaban, PM office, Secretariat, and Sadarghat Terminal. Our eight vehicles have started working in different locations today,” said Debashis Bardhan.
He also said that the operation will continue till further orders. They will also go to different terminals, bus stations, and railway stations gradually.
Meanwhile, DNCC Assistant Engineer Fazle Rabbi said: “We have already started spraying germicide in different areas under the DNCC.
“We are working in infected areas, hospitals where the patients are kept, places where the quarantined patients are staying, footpaths, foot-over bridges, bus-stands, and market areas,” he added.
Till date, Bangladesh has recorded five deaths and 39 infections from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed more than 18,900 lives and infected over 425,300 people across the world till date, according to Worldometer.
More than 109,000 people have recovered from the virus which has spread in 196 countries.
