Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2020 has succeeded to gain an increasing number of visitors towards the tail end of the month-long fair.

Young writers experienced a surge of separate fan bases, and publishers drew huge sales.

Md Rakib, senior sales executive of Annesha Publication, said: "We are satisfied with the sales. Many books are on top of the favorites’ list of book lovers. Novels of young writers such as Kingkar Ahsan and Abdullah Al Imran are selling well."

He claimed books by Humayun Ahmed are still top sellers as usual.

Postmortem, a crime fiction novel by author Patricia Cornwell, translated into Bangla by Santa Riki is one of the top sellers among translated books.

Historical fiction “Ekhane Themo Na,” the fifth book in a series, by author Anisul Huq published by Prothoma Prokashon is one of their top sellers this season. The book is about the historic announcement of independence by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bela-Obela by Mohiuddin Ahmmod was Batighar’s top seller, which is a sequel in a series of stories regarding the situation in the newly emerged Bangladesh between 1972-1975.

Moreover, mobile banking service Bkash's book donation campaign has become enriched in the last days of the fair.

An executive of Bkash, Saiful Islam Hredoy, said: "Thousand of books were donated with some people donating about 200 books altogether."

"After collecting them we then distribute the books among underprivileged children. We regularly do it as a part of our social concern," he added.

Several visitors expressed sorrow stating that they would miss visiting the fair.

Md Nurul Islam, a resident of Azimpur area, told Dhaka Tribune: "The fair is organized only once a year. I have the habit of buying books only during this month of the year. If such book fairs are organized more than once in a year, the pressure in February in this area would also be reduced."

"I am going to miss the fair," he added.

Nusrat Zahan, an undergraduate of Dhaka University, said: "The fair almost came to an end. There are only two days left; Friday and Saturday. I am thinking there would be a huge crowd on those two days. That is why I am here. But today's [yesterday] crowd is not small either.”

The fair is scheduled to end on Saturday.
