Counterfeit notes of over Tk1 crore seized

Update : 10 Jan 2020, 02:53 PM

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has busted a fake currency-making factory and seized more than Tk1 crore worth of counterfeit notes from Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

A team of RAB 10 arrested two people in this connection when they raided the factory, set up in a multi-storey building at Road 7A in Dhanmondi on Friday.

They also confiscated a currency making-machine, chemicals, printer, paper to make fake notes, and some computers.

Maj Shahriar Ziaur Rahman of RAB 10, who led the drive, told Dhaka Tribune that the notes were Tk500 and Tk1,000 bills.

“Some of the money were 100% ready to be released to the market, some of them are 90% ready, and others are 40-50% ready,” he further added.

RAB also said the two suspects they arrested in connection with the fake currency factory had been involved in this counterfeit business for a long period of time.

The force is working to catch the others who are involved with releasing the fake notes into the market, and area managers of the racket, RAB officials said.
