Police have arrested three people for trying to sell counterfeit dollar to a rice trader in Ashulia.
The arrestees are Mohammad Ali, 55, Mojibor Rahman, 35, and Sanwar Hossain, 40.
They were arrested from Ashulia's Sreepur area on Saturday night.
The counterfeit dollars, consisting of $5 and $10 notes, were seized from them. They had also put white papers in the middle of the bundles.
The rice trader, Khorshed, said he had known Mohammad Ali for a long time.
However, he became suspicious when Ali offered to sell dollars at a reduced rate and informed the police.
Later, three members of the gang were arrested with counterfeit dollars when they tried to sell it.
The rice trader later filed a case against them.
In this regard, Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheikh Md Masud Al Mamun said three people have been sent to court. “It is also being investigated whether anyone else is involved with them.”
