What happened?

A female student of Dhaka University (DU) was reportedly raped by an unknown man or men in Dhaka's Kurmitola area on Sunday evening.

Police and her fellow classmates said the girl left the campus in a DU bus for her friend's place at Khilkhet's Shewra area and mistakenly got off at Kurmitola around 7pm.

An unknown man gagged her from behind and took her to an isolated place, where she became unconscious. Later, she was raped and physically tortured, they said quoting the girl.

They also said the girl regained her consciousness around 10pm and discovered herself in the isolated place. She hired a vehicle and went to her friend's place.

On information, her friend and classmates took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight.

The girl was admitted to the hospital's One Stop Crisis Centre, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
