Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged local and foreign organizations and the affluent section of society to extend their helping hands for the welfare of the people with disabilities.

“We are working relentlessly to turn them as human resources through providing all necessary facilities, including education, healthcare and employment opportunities,” she said on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Disabled Day 2019 on Wednesday.

She also inaugurated the national complex, Subarna Bhaban, for the disabled, reports BSS.

The prime minister appreciated the theme of the day -- The Future is Accessible -- saying it was time befitting and imperative to integrate people with disabilities with the mainstream of development to ensure their empowerment.

She said the present government implemented various programs since 2009 to link the disabled people with the mainstream development.

“We have already enacted Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act 2013, Neuro Developmental Disability Protection Trust Act, 2013, Rehabilitation Council Act 2018, special education policy 2019 for disabled people and established service centers to support the disabled person in our country,” the premier added.
