The first ever smart city expo in Dhaka has targeted to collect 50% holding tax online in 2020.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said “We have already launched online holding tax collection service. Around 50% of taxpayers under DNCC can avail the service in 2020.”
The mayor made the statement at the inauguration ceremony of the first smart city expo and conference 2019, at International Convention City, Bashundhara, in Dhaka on Thursday.

In early December 2018, DNCC signed an agreement with five banks in Bangladesh on collecting holding tax and trade licence fees online.
The five banks are: Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Mercantile Bank, Prime Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank.
Mayor said “Collecting trade licence fees online will start from next year. Users of these smart services from now onwards can pay their fee online, instead of wasting time by paying it face to face at the concerned offices.”
MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, Mamunur Rashid, country managing director, Pricewaterhousecoopers Bangladesh Private Limited, Dr. Haji Amirul Bin Abdul Wahab, chief executive officer, Cyber Security Malaysia, Sushobhan Mukherjee, chairman of Infosec Foundation, India, Ahmed Imtiaz, chief executive officer of Redcarpet365 were present at the opening ceremony.

Redcarpet365 organized the expo which will continue until November 30. Private developers, transport companies and representatives from Information Communication Technologies (ICT) along with the government and non-government organizations displayed their products in the fair.
