Quader: Satisfied with Nusrat murder verdict

Nusrat was set on fire in broad daylight on April 6

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has expressed his satisfaction over the swift announcement of the verdict in Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.

“I express satisfaction over the verdict,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday, reports UNB.

A tribunal in Feni sentenced 16 people to death for their roles in killing Nusrat. Now the subordinate court will send the death reference copy to the High Court for approval.

On April 6, 18-year-oldNusrat, an alim examinee of SonagaziIslamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire in broad daylight on the roof of the madrasa by people loyal to principal MdSirajuddaula, when she refused to withdraw a sexual harassment case her family filed against him on May 27.

She succumbed to her critical burn injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10, which sparked nationwide outrage and a public demand for swift justice against the perpetrators.
