'Abrar was refused water during torture'

Nazmus said: 'Abrar was mostly beaten up by Anik Sarker, Sakal, Mujahid and Monir, students of batch 15 and 16'

Nazmus Sadat, one of the suspects in Buet student Abrad Fahad murder case, has said they did not give Abrar any water to drink during the torture.

He revealed the information to the media on the premises of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court on Wednesday.

"Nazmus said: “Abrar was mostly beaten up by Anik Sarker, Sakal, Mujahid, and Monir, students of batch 15 and 16."

“During the torture, when Abrar asked for water, they not only refused to let him drink, but also stopped others from taking him to the hospital.” he said.

Sadat, a 17th batch student of mechanical engineering department in Buet, was earlier placed on a five-day remand by the same court.

Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuyian passed the order against Sadat after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

Sadat was arrested from Katla Bazar area in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday.

He remained a fugitive since the day of the incident, and was trying to flee to India through the Hili border.

Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on October 7.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

On the same day, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case with Chawkbazar police station.

Abrar’s death sparked protests across Bangladesh. The protesters have demanded justice for Abrar, and capital punishment for the murderers.
