Abrar murder: Sadat placed on 5-day remand

Sadat was arrested from Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday

A Dhaka court has placed another suspect on a five-day remand in the Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet) student Abrad Fahad murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuyian passed the order against ASM Nazmus Sadat after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer on Wednesday.

Sadat was arrested from Katla Bazar area in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday.

He remained a fugitive since the day of the incident and was trying to flee to India through the Hili border.

Sadat is a 17th batch student of mechanical engineering department in Buet and the son of Hafizur Rahman from Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district.

Till date, 20 people have been arrested in connection to Abrar's murder.

Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on October 7.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

On the same day, Abrar's father BarkatUllah filed a murder case with Chawkbazar police station.

Abrar’s death sparked protests across Bangladesh. The protesters have demanded justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
