Bangladesh will export only imported and processed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to India, not the country’s natural gas, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.
“Now, we are importing LPG from abroad and some of it will be exported to Tripura of India,” she said while addressing a press conference about the outcomes of her recent official visits to the USA and India, at Ganabhaban on Wednesday.
“LPG is not natural gas and it’s not produced in Bangladesh,” Sheikh Hasina said.
Tripura will produce electricity from the LPG imported from Bangladesh, she added.
Sheikh Hasina also said that Bangladesh is importing diesel from Assam, which is more economical than importing from any other country.
Bangladesh and India signed seven bilateral documents, aiming to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
On September 22, the prime minister went to New York on an eight-day visit to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On her return from the US, she went to India on October 3 to attend the India Economic Summit 2019 of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
During her four-day official visit to India, Sheikh Hasina also held a bilateral meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and met Indian President Ram NathKovind on October 5.
The two prime ministers also jointly inaugurated three bilateral development partnership projects -- import of bulk LPG from Bangladesh, Vivekananda Bhaban (student hostel) at Ramakrishna Mission in Dhaka and Bangladesh-India Professional Skill Development Institute in Bangladesh.
