A college student reportedly committed suicide, shooting himself with his father’s gun, according to his father, Sajjadur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna division.
Police recovered Sadik’s body from Dhaka’s Azimpur government quarters area, on Monday.
“Sadik Bin Sazzad, an HSC second-year commerce student at Dhaka City College, committed suicide at his home early on Monday morning,” said Lalbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Ashraf Uddin.
“He shot himself with his father’s licenced pistol.”
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Head of Forensic Medicine Department of DMCH, Dr Sohel Mahmud said: “We have extracted a bullet stuck in the left side of his brain. The preliminary report confirms suicide.”
Deputy Commissioner Sajjadur Rahman was Superintendent of Police (SP) in Satkhira district and was transferred to Dhaka two months back. Sadik was the oldest of his three children.
DMP Assistant Commissioner (Lalbagh zone) Md Salahuddin said the family came to know about the tragic incident around 8 am on Monday. As Sadik’s private tutor came in, family members knocked on Sadik’s door. When there was no response from Sadik after several knocks, the family got worried and broke down the door.
They found Sadik’s bloodied dead body on the floor while law enforcement rushed to the scene to recover Sadik’s body with a pistol lying by his side.
“We recovered the pistol licensed in the name of DC Sajjadur,” Salahuddin added.
DMP AC (New Market zone) Md Saiful Islam said police recovered a suicide note from the spot, where the deceased wrote that his results were not good and he was not meeting any expectations.
