Police have detained more than 100 teenagers and youths during drives against teen gangs in Dhaka.
They were detained at different places under Hatirjheel police station on Friday.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon industrial zone) Hafiz Al Faruque said they started the hours-long drive around 4:30pm based on complaints from parents and guardians.
He said: "We detained them and are looking into their profiles. If we find them guilty, legal action will be taken against them."
Hafiz added: "If there are no allegations, they will be handed over to their guardians upon obtaining written undertakings."
Although teen gang culture is not a new phenomenon, the rising trend of teenagers' involvement in criminal activities through different gangs has become an alarming issue for the fast growing society.
