Police have arrested two people over the hacking of an Bangladeshi expatriate in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, reportedly stemming from his relationship with his former wife.
The arrestees are Shanto and Billal alias Kala Billal. Police said they are members of a teen gang.
DMP Mohammadpur Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jewel Rana disclosed the information at a press briefing at Mohammadpur police station around on Friday.
He said the victim, Laskar Hridoy, was hacked and injured in the Mohammadpur Limited area. His father filed a case at Mohammadpur police station over the incident.
Four members of a local teen gang were named in the case: Munna alias Captain Munna, Russell alias Anda Russell, Billal alias Kala Billal and Garhkata Saiful. Several others were also named as unidentified accused.
ADC Jewel said police launched an operation after the case was filed and arrested two members of the teen gang. Billal alias Kala Billal was arrested late Thursday night (August 27).
He said a love triangle was mainly behind the incident.
According to the police official, Hridoy married a woman named Hafsa Akter several years ago. A few days after their marriage, Hafsa developed a relationship with teen gang leader Captain Munna.
She later eloped with Munna and married him. Three years later, Hridoy went to Saudi Arabia.
Despite leaving the country, Hridoy continued communicating with Hafsa and allegedly maintained a secret relationship with her.
After learning about the relationship, Munna called Hridoy and warned him against talking to Hafsa, while also issuing various threats. Despite this, Hridoy and Hafsa continued communicating, police said.
Hridoy recently returned to Bangladesh on vacation. After learning of his return, Munna allegedly called him on Monday and hacked him, leaving him seriously injured.
Hridoy was attacked just three days after returning to the country.
He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
