3 workers die after falling from a high-rise in Dhaka

Police visited the spot in the evening and were investigating the incident

Three workers fell to their death from an under-construction building in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Friday.

The deceased are – Md Selim, Md Shohel Rana, and Wasim Uddin, all hailing from Rajshahi’s Godagari Upazila.

Confirming the matter, Pallabi Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sufiyer Rahman said the men were working on the 9th floor of the building at Mirpur-2’s Block-B Road No 5. 

“They were working on a suspended platform made of bamboo on the exterior of the building. At one point, the platform collapsed and the workers fell to the ground,” he added.

Locals took Selim and Shohel to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital and Wasim was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).  

However, on-duty doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. 

SI Sufiyer also said police visited the spot in the evening and were investigating the incident. 

“We are yet to talk to the owners of the building. Legal measures will follow if any complaint is filed with us,” he said.
