Update : 01 Aug 2019, 03:40 PM

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said the government is readying three public hospitals in Dhaka to tackle the dengue menace.

He also said pathology testing kits and reagents were being imported for the detection of dengue.

The minister made the comments while addressing a seminar on dengue at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital on Thursday.

Claiming that everything is being managed properly, Zahid Maleque said any crisis can be tackled if everyone works together.

He also emphasized the immediate need for plans to face the possible spread of dengue outside Dhaka, as thousands of people will leave the capital and return to their home districts during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

The minister returned home from Malaysia in the early hours of Wednesday, amid criticism for travelling while the country was facing the threat of dengue.

He left Bangladesh on July 27 and was supposed to come back from Malaysia on August 4.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh has had 17,183 dengue cases in 2019, as of July 31.
