Although an arrest warrant was issued against Asad Kazi, 45, the bus driver's assistant, police has not been able to arrest him as yet.

On July 29 last year, Dia Khanom Mim and Abdul Karim, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, were killed after a Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus crashed into them in the MES area of Dhaka's Airport Road.

The incident triggered a demonstration, blocking almost all the roads in Dhaka, which ultimately turned into the road safety movement.

Accusing six, a charge sheet was placed in the Dhaka Metropolitan Court by Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The six are: Shahadat Hossain, 60, owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus; driver Masum Billah, 30; his assistant Enayet Hossain, 38; owner of another Jabal-e-Noor bus Jahangir Alam, 45; its driver Zobair Sumon, 36; and his assistant Asad Kazi, 45.

The court is expected to deliver the verdict over the case anytime.

Deputy Commissioner (North) of DB, Moshiur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that guardians, victims, and other witnesses have already given their testimony.

“After collecting the evidence, and recording the testimonies of witnesses, the court has its own observation. Depending on that, the court will deliver the verdict anytime,” he added.

Two of the arrested, Shohag Ali and Ripon Hosen, were released as police found no proof of their involvement in the incident.

Forty one people were made witnesses in the charge sheet, of whom 11 were students injured during the crash.

The charge sheet was submitted under sections 304, 279, 323, 325, and 34. Under section 304, the highest punishment is life imprisonment.

Mohmmad Jahangir, father of deceased Mim, filed the case.
