PM to DCs: Remain alert to tackle floods

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has achieved much skill in disaster management

Update : 14 Jul 2019, 03:06 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the deputy commissioners (DCs) to remain alert to tackle flooding.

"From now on, we have to remain alert at all times for disaster management. We're very much aware about it," she said, while inaugurating the five-day annual conference of DCs at Shapla Hall in the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has achieved much skill in disaster management, reports UNB.

She mentioned that some parts of the country have already been flooded and the flood water will slowly come down to the mid areas of the country.  "And at the end of August, the flood water will go to the low-lying areas," she said.

The prime minister noted how the DCs took prompt steps whenever natural disasters struck.

"Government officials at the union and upazila level also took proper steps. This should be continued," she added.
