150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi celebrated in Dhaka

‘Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals are more relevant than ever’

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated in Dhaka. 

The High Commission of India in Dhaka held a bi-Cycle Rally at the Dhaka University campus on Saturday morning to mark his sesquicentennial birth anniversary.

Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman were present at the event. 

This year, the Government of India is observing the event across the world, in a befitting manner, in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, and this cycling event is a part of the celebrations. 

Members of the Dhaka University Cycling Club took part in the event. High Commissioner Riva Ganguly and Prof Akhtaruzzaman addressed the audience. 

In her speech Riva Ganguly Das said: “We are living in a time when the messages and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi are more relevant than ever. Even now, his life and determination inspires millions of people across the world.”

The Indian high commissioner urged all young and old gathered there to carry forward the timeless messages of Mahatma Gandhi. 

Mahatma Gandhi was the primary leader of India’s independence movement, and also the architect of the non-violent civil disobedience movement, that would influence the world. 

Until Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, his life, and teachings inspired rights activists including Martin Luther King Jr, and Nelson Mandela.
