A six-year-old child has been killed and three others have been injured in a sewerage blast in Dhaka.
The incident occurred in the capital's Munshibari area in Jurain around 6pm on Tuesday.
The explosion claimed the life of Abir, a six-year-old first-grader, and injured his mother Shathi Akter, his sister Adiba, a fifth-grader, and van puller Md Rubel.
The injured three were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police station outpost in-charge, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bachchu Mia, said: "The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
"Abir's sister Adiba injured her head, and left leg. Their mother, Shathi Akter injured her left leg while the van-puller Rubel injured his right leg. They are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital."
Shampur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that police are investigating the matter.
When contacted, Abir's uncle Md Masud said: "Shathi, Abir, and Adiba with her family, were going to visit one of their relatives’ home in Jurain.
"When they reached the Munshibari area, the sewerage line exploded and killed Abir, injuring three others."
Abir's father, Sajeeb Ahmed, was not present at the time of the incident.
