Through the initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor, Md Atiqul Islam, the 1188 meter long bypass drain’s construction, at a cost of around Tk5.5 crore from Kalshi to Baunia canal in Dhaka, is near completion.
The mayor visited Kalshi area to examine the progress of the drain construction around 12pm Saturday. Nearly 90% of the construction work has already been completed, and the entire work will see completion within a week.
It is expected that, upon completion of the drain construction, the problem of water logging in Kalshi area will be resolved.
It is to be noted that under the jurisdiction of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewage Authority (Wasa), Sangbadik Colony (Kalshi) canal and Muslim Bazar canal have already been cleaned by DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam in an earlier initiative.
Among others, DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Muhammad Jubayer Salehin, Dhaka North Ward Councilor Mobasher Chowdhury, Caretaker Engineer Sharif Uddin, and Executive Engineer Enamul Kabir, accompanied the mayor.
