TraumaLink, a volunteer based emergency response system to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on highways, has signed a contract Gemcon Group and Dhaka Tribune.

The service model used by TraumaLink includes an emergency hotline number, 24/7 call centre, and volunteer first responders recruited from the local community. Volunteers are trained in basic first aid and provided with necessary medical equipment, such as bandages and stretchers.

TraumaLink’s emergency response areas include 10km of road from Gazipur Chowrasta to National Park, 40km from Dhamrai to Nabagram, and 65km from Meghna Bridge to Kotbari, Comilla.

If there is an incident in the designated areas, TraumaLink first responders assess the situation and perform necessary emergency tasks. They also record information from all victims/patients to send immediate news to families, manage transport for those in critical condition, and inform local highway police and Fire Services, as necessary.
