DMP: Info on 1.5m Dhaka tenants on server

Update : 29 Mar 2017, 06:53 PM
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has collected information on nearly 1.5m tenants living in Dhaka as part of an initiative to counter terrorism. DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia in a Facebook Live broadcast Tuesday night said they had collected about 1,684,000 tenant information forms since late 2015. The DMP asked Dhaka residents to submit their information to help the police track down suspected criminals who may be hiding in the city. He told a participant that the DMP media cell had uploaded information from about 1.47 million forms in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) server. “The rest will be listed soon,” he added.

Commissioner Asaduzzaman said the police efforts had created awareness among citizens. “Now, no one can rent a place without providing the necessary information and this is helping us prevent crimes in the city,” the DMP chief said. He reasoned this is why militants are going into hiding outside Dhaka. Police have also launched a mobile application – Hello CT – through which anybody can give the law enforcers information about suspected militants. “The app has been very helpful in tracing and busting militant hideouts,” the commissioner added.
