Customs Intelligence officials have seized 48 gold bars, weighing about 15.73kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
According to a press release issued by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), the gold bars were found beside a gents’ washroom around 1:30am on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Customs intelligence recovered the gold bars, wrapped in white scotch tape in nine packets, from a trash basket beside the gents’ washroom next to the boarding bridge 7 of the airport.
The approximate value of the gold bars is around Tk7.86 crore. No one has been arrested over the incident but action will be taken accordingly under tax law, the statement reads.
