Newly-elected Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur has urged the Prime Minister to accept the students' demands for safer roads.
"We want your [the prime minister's] promise that the demands made by the protesting students will be met," Nur said during a visit to express his solidarity with the protesting students, in Shahbagh area in Dhaka, on Wednesday.
Massive protests broke out with students blocking several roads in Dhaka, demanding safe roads and justice for the death of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury. Abrar was run over by a Shuprovat Paribahan bus on the Pragati Sharani road near Kuril on Tuesday.
The protests continued on Wednesday, with students boycotting classes and bringing Dhaka traffic to a standstill.
On the same day, Nur went to extend his support to the students at the Pragati Sharani, but his presence was not welcomed by the protesters.
