The crowd on Tuesday seemed to have intensified at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair with only two days remaining before it ends.
The number of visitors appeared to be higher compared to other regular working days.
The fair was opened at 3pm as per schedule and visitors were seen standing in a long queue in the evening, waiting to enter the fair.
A total of 185 books hit the fair on the 26th day and publishers reported brisk sales.
Noted writer Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal visited the fair on the day. His fans, mostly young students, took the opportunity to take photos and selfies with him.
Meanwhile, a discussion titled “Mrinal Sen, Amjad Hossain and Anwar Hossain: Tribute” was held at the Bangla Academy premises.
It was organized as part of the month-long series on the occasion of book fair at 4pm followed by a cultural event.
Film critic Sajedul Awal presented the keynote speech while Hasan Imam presided over the program. Cultural personality M Hamid, researcher Tapan Bagchi and Bidhan Riberu also talked about the three artists and their works.
Mrinal Sen, born on May 14, 1923, was a Kolkata-based filmmaker. Along with his contemporaries Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak, he was often considered to be one of the greatest ambassadors of Bangali parallel cinema on the global stage.
He died on December 30 last year.
Amjad Hossain, who died on December 14, 2018, was a film director, actor, scriptwriter and lyricist. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director twice, for “Golapi Ekhon Train e” (1978) and “Bhat De” (1984).
Prominent photographer Anwar Hossain, born on October 6, 1948, graduated from Buet and completed his higher education in film studies from Pune University, India.
Since the starting of his career as a photographer in 1967, he has solidified his legacy as one of Bangladesh's all-time greats in the field, with five national awards and more than 60 international awards.
