The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has collected 32 DNA samples, from relatives of the deceased Chawkbazar fire victims, for cross-matching.
The collected samples will be cross-checked against 19 bodies that have yet to be identified.
The information was released by the CID at a press briefing on Saturday around 12pm.
CID Assistant DNA Analyst Nusrat Yasmeen said: “We have collected the samples. The identification process will take some time. It could be a week, or a month. We have already started the process.
People who still have not found the bodies of their relatives, I urge them to come forward and give us a DNA sample.”
At least 67 people were killed in a massive fire that ravaged several multi-storey buildings on Nanda Kumar Lane in the Churihatta area of Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka, on Wednesday night.
It took 37 fire-fighting units 15 hours to douse the flames.
