The authority of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue has started handing over the bodies of those who died in the Chawkbazar fire, around 2:30pm on Thursday.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Dhaka Division Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Selim Reza said: "We have already handed over 15 bodies to the victims' families."
"The families of the deceased are being provided with Tk20,000 by the district administration.
"A total of 67 bodies are being kept at the DMCH morgue. As far as I know, a total 30 bodies have been identified till now."
"However, it is very difficult to recognize anyone as they are so severely burnt. Thus, the process is taking some time.
"The people who are able to recognize their relatives—their family members—are being handed their bodies.
"We, from a humanitarian perspective, and as a part of our duty, are trying our best to ensure the families of the deceased get their loved ones' bodies as soon as possible, without any hassle," he added.
