Former president and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has expressed his deep shock over the deaths caused by a massive fire in Chawkbazar’s Churihatta area of Old Dhaka.
The opposition leader of 11th parliament expressed his condolences to the victims’ family members in a statement issued on Thursday.
Ershad also called upon the officials concerned to take the necessary measures to treat the injured victims and offer compensation to the victims’ relatives.
In the statement, the Jatiya Party chairman urged the government to determine the cause of this massive disaster, and bring those responsible to trial if tangible evidence of negligence is found.
He demanded that fire-fighting systems and equipment be modernized to tackle such disasters in the future.

Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairman Begum Rowshan Ershad and party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga have issued similar statements expressing condolences.
