GM Quader: Corruption, murder cases filed to muzzle me

On Wednesday, the ACC began investigating GM Quader over alleged embezzlement and nomination business

Update : 20 Mar 2025, 10:15 PM

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has said that corruption and murder cases have been filed against him to silence him after he began speaking out against injustice, similar to what happened with Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

However, despite all the conspiracies, he assured that Jatiya Party would rise again.

On Thursday, GM Quader made the comments as the chief guest at an iftar gathering organized by the Dhaka South City Unit of the Jatiya Party at the party’s central office in Kakrail to mark the birthday of Jatiya Party's founding chairman and former president, Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

In his speech, GM Quader said: "While the country has been freed from fascism, a new form is rising. Certain groups have been obstructing Jatiya Party's programs, but the interim government has not acted."

He denied allegations of involvement in nomination trade during the 2018 elections, calling them baseless.

He said, "Today, we held our iftar program without any hindrance. This is our first victory against fascism. Inshallah, we will continue to speak out against murder, rape, and all forms of injustice and oppression."

GM Quader reaffirmed that the Jatiya Party conducts peaceful programs and works for the nation. He expressed frustration that since the current government took power, a faction has been branding them as fascist allies, despite Jatiya Party's initial support for the anti-discrimination student movement.

GM Quader said: "Despite our criticisms, the previous Awami League government effectively suppressed militancy. IS and similar groups oppose fascism, but their violent ideologies make them terrorists, not patriots. This raises doubts about the government's motives."

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an investigation into Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader over allegations of trading party positions, engaging in nomination business and embezzling party funds through fraudulent means on Wednesday.

Based on these findings, the commission has decided to proceed with an open investigation, which could lead to legal action if necessary.

Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Jatiya Party's secretary general, said that despite being a registered party, other parties block their programs, and the administration takes no action. He questioned the neutrality of the interim government.

Chunnu also said that Jamaat and other parties demand proportional representation in elections, a proposal made by Ershad 30 years ago. He recalled the contributions of the Jatiya Party's Founding Chairman HM Ershad.

Other speakers at the event included Jatiya Party Presidium Members Zahirul Islam Zahir, Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, and the Chairman’s adviser Khalilur Rahman Khalil.

At the event, GM Quader and the party leaders cut a cake to celebrate the birthday of Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
