President attends milad for Syed Ashraful

Syed Ashraful breathed his last at a Bangkok hospital in Thailand on Thursday at the age of 68

President M Abdul Hamid has attended a milad and doa mahfil for the late Public Administration Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Syed Ashraful Islam, at the Officers’ Club at Bailey Road in Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon.

Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior politicians, judges, high civil and military officials, secretaries concerned to the President and Prime Minister’s Offices, family members of the deceased, leaders and workers of the ruling Awami League and its associate bodies attended the program, organized jointly by the deceased’s family and the Public Administration Ministry, reports BSS.

A special munajat was offered on the occasion, seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Syed Ashraful Islam, also a valiant freedom fighter and former general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League.

Besides, prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage, as well as the Liberation War martyrs.

Prayers were also offered wishing long life and good health of President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as well as the success of the new cabinet that took oath on Monday.

Syed Ashraful, son of slain national leader Syed Nazrul Islam, who was also acting president of the Mujibnagar Government in 1971, breathed his last at a Bangkok hospital in Thailand on Thursday at the age of 68.
