Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Monday said police have taken adequate security measures to ensure that there are no post election squabbles or confrontations.

“If anyone tries to threaten, attack, or harass anybody, legal action will be taken against them regardless of their party or position,” he added.

The DMP commissioner made the statement while addressing reporters at his office in the afternoon.

“If the winning candidate, his supporters, or any other person threatens or harasses activists of defeated parties or the general public, they will not be spared legal action,” he further said, adding that sufficient security measures have been taken till January 2.

Asaduzzaman Mia also said the elections were held in a peaceful, safe, and festive environment in Dhaka, without any infringement of law and order.

“We were cautious and vigilant. Because of this, I think the people were able to vote for their preferred candidate safely,” he said.

“We will continue to be vigilant, and will not accept it if any common citizens or members of losing parties are threatened by the winning group. Whatever the position of the culprit, we will bring him to book,” the DMP commissioner reiterated.
