A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death by his sister’s stalker on Sunday on the Jurain Mazar gate area in Shyampur, Dhaka for standing up to him.
The deceased – Sheikh Imlam Pavel was the son of Monir Hossain of Keshabpur village in the Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali. The family lives in the west Jurain’s Mazar Gate area.
Confirming the incident, Shyampur Police’s Officer-In-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that they are trying to arrest the perpetrators and case is being filed in this connection.
According to Pavel’s friend Belal Hossain, a man named Tuhin regularly stalked and harassed Pavel’s college-aged sister, although Pavel had previously asked them to leave her alone.
“On Saturday, Pavel met with Tuhin to resolve the matter but an altercation broke out where Pavel slapped Tuhin several times,” Belal said.
“Tuhin then came back with a few associates and stabbed Pavel in the stomach at 10:30pm at Jurain Mazar gate on Saturday night. We rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with the help of locals, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at 9:30am today (Sunday),” he added.
