BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has sought time to decide on being admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital for treatment, says the inspector general (prisons).
Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin said they have talked to Khaleda Zia about her treatment and told her that BSMMU is equipped with all the facilities and treatment for her health problems.
The BNP chief told the authorities that she needs some time to make a decision, he said.
“We are now waiting for her decision,” the IG prisons added.
The 73-year-old former prime minister has been imprisoned in Old Dhaka Central Jail since February 8 after a court sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment for the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
On September 16, a medical board said they found no symptoms of any serious disease in Khaleda Zia.
The board, formed by the government, suggested admitting her to a hospital, like BSMMU, where treatment is available for all health problems.
