Medicine worth Tk1.6cr seized at Dhaka airport

The medicines, worth Tk1.6 crore, arrived in a Hajj flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia around 5pm

Customs officials on Monday afternoon seized a large amount of restricted and illegally imported medicine from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The medicines, worth Tk1.6 crore, arrived in a Hajj flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia around 5pm, said Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Dr Shahidul Islam, reports UNB.

Based on information, a CIID team stayed alert in the airport premises, he said. 

After the flight (SV 808) landed, the team searched all luggage and found illegal medicines in eight luggages, he added.

The seized medicines were Albumin injection 50ml, Lantus solostarinj 100u/ml, Neoral 100mg, Levemir 100ml, AnxateFlumazel capsule, Rhophylac 300mg,Victroza 6mg, Euthrox 50 mg tablet, Cipralex10 mg, Keppra Levetiractam 500 mg, Mimpara tablets, NovoRapid 100u/ml, Cellcept 500 mg, One-Alpha .25 mg and Salazopyrin 500ml.

Necessary legal steps will be taken under the Customs Act, the CIID Director added.
