Actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, arrested for spreading rumours on Facebook during recent student protests concerning road safety, has thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after her release on bail.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, she thanked the prime minister for giving her the opportunity to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with her daughter Prokriti.

“I do not know how to thank honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving me the opportunity to feel the joy of Eid with my only daughter, Prokriti,” Nawshaba wrote in her post from her husband Ehsan Rahman Zia’s Facebook account.

“She [the prime minister] is a tested, real and most capable guardian of the 160 million people of Bangladesh; apart from her role of leading the country she is an affectionate mother which I realise being a mother myself,” the actor added.

On Tuesday, a Dhaka Court granted her bail on a bond of Tk5,000 in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Nawshaba also extended Eid greetings to all.

“You all know I was granted bail by the lower court the day before Eid. Through this the independent judiciary of the country has established a bright example of humanity. I am overwhelmed. I am grateful to my lawyers.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the police, Rapid Action Battalion, and the authorities of Kashimpur Central Jail, as well as doctors and nurses at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The actor thanked her fellow artistes, media persons, university teachers, and students for standing beside her during her crisis.

RAB detained the actor in Dhaka's Uttara area on August 4 on charges of spreading rumours on Facebook about the attack on students demonstrating in Dhanmondi for road safety.

She was placed on remand twice.
