Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists from Dhaka University (DU) unit distributed sweets and chocolates among the students protesting for road safety in the Shahbag intersection in Dhaka on Saturday.

President and General Secretary of DU Chhatra League unit conducted the distribution around 12:30pm among the students, who are also demanding justice for the two college students killed by a bus on Dhaka Airport Road last Sunday.

Expressing solidarity with the protestors, General Secretary of DU Chhatra League unit Md Saddam Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: "The government is aware of the demands and emotions of the students gathered here. We have distributed sweets among the protestors to spread our goodwill.

"We have explained to them [the protestors] that the government will meet their nine-point demands," Saddam said. "They need to go back home now."

The general secretary said the students have assured him they will leave the area after continuing their demonstration for a while longer.

Chhatra League left Shahbag around 1:30pm after talking and distributing sweets and chocolates among the students.

Students from different schools, colleges and universities have taken to the streets for the seventh consecutive day, taking on the role of traffic police by controlling traffic at various major points of the capital, while simultaneously protesting for the justice of two college students killed last Sunday.
